The LibDems in France Executive Committee roles

Any member of the local party (Liberal Democrats in France) can put themselves forward for one of the posts described below - self nomination is encouraged!

We actively promote the involvement of as diverse a group of volunteers as possible and offer a wide range of training and support to help in the performance of their chosen role.

Regular meetings and many of our activities take place online, so your geographic location is hopefully no bar to getting involved.

Chair

Treasurer

Data Officer

The Chair's role is to provide guidance and leadership to the local party executive. The Chair ensures the local party is working to an agreed vision and development plan. The Chair is accountable for ensuring the local party meets legal and party requirements. 

Key Tasks: Chair the Local Party Executive meetings and ensure that it is run according to the local party constitution. Define an action programme and lead the Local Party in working to fulfil it.


Vice Chair

The Vice Chair is a position that has strategic value as it involves you in the heart of your local party, and offers the opportunity to support a range of objectives linked to the action plans for the organisation.

Key Tasks: Deputising for the Chair and acting on behalf of the local party as required. Acting as a sounding board and a support to the Chair and other colleagues, helping with specific projects where needed.


Secretary

The role of local party Secretary is to ensure that the party functions effectively and in accordance with the local, regional, national and federal party constitutions. The Secretary ensures that the processes and rules laid out in the constitution are enacted, and that the decisions made by the local party's executive committee are constitutional.

Key Tasks: Arrange executive meetings, including circulating the agenda and documenting the minutes to ensure an accurate record of them is kept, especially the decisions and agreed actions. 



The Data Officer supports the local party to use data and digital tools effectively so it can run both campaigns and maintain digital communications with the local party’s members and supporters. (Training and support available through both online and live events and from experienced local colleagues)

Key Tasks: Manage membership and supporter data within Lighthouse (membership database) and other systems, including making sure the data is processed in accordance with the party data protection rules. Manipulate and use digital resources for local campaigns, and produce data as required. Maintain the local party website.


Membership Development Officer

The Membership Development Officer is the main point of contact for most members and supporters, making sure that they are involved with the Lib Dem community where they live and for overseas electors, where they vote. They take the lead in arranging events for them to attend and get them involved with campaigning. Additionally this officer is the local party lead on recruiting more members and in keeping existing members up to date with when their subscriptions.

Key Tasks: Communicate regularly with members and supporters via email, social media and at events to encourage them to get involved. Monitor lapsing members each quarter and ensure personal contact is made to encourage membership renewal. Initiate and help deliver recruitment and retention campaigns.


Diversity & Inclusion Officer (new role)

The Diversity Officer is someone in the local party who has a passion for people and aims to bring in diversity to the local party, with the aim of making is more relatable to the community. They help with local party’s fundraising and campaigning activities, as well as with the Membership Development Officer when it comes to organising events. 

Key Tasks: Make a list of the groups in the community and reaches out to them, attending events to meet new and different people. Sets up a diversity calendar, containing important cultural events and dates. Makes a social media message plan, to make sure you are putting the right messages out on the right days.


Ordinary Member

The Treasurer's role is to have strategic ownership of expenditure and income, such as preparing budgets and financial targets for discussion by others and advising on the implications of spending decisions. The treasurer is also responsible for the practical side of managing the local party's finances, such as paying in bills and producing financial reports.

Key Tasks: Prepare a budget for the year and circulate reports for monthly or bi-monthly Executive Meetings, regarding local party accounts, income and expenditure.

Each local party has people elected to their Executive Committee as Ordinary Members, who do not hold specific roles. These are people who help by having a say in how the local party is run, and by taking on ad hoc roles and helping with special projects.

Key Tasks: Attend and participate in regular meetings, evaluating agenda items and voting on them. Assist with local party tasks and be an approachable face in your local party, for other members who want to be more involved.
